Supporting financial education and relief for women, people of color, and members of the LGBT+ community
Because of COVID-19 we have had a lot of extra time this year to think about what we want to do with our time and our money. And we are also doing a lot of listening. We are both feeling healthy and relatively safe and secure right now, but we know many others are not.
When the economy is strong and life is good, women, people of color, and members of the LGBT+ community still have to work extra hard to gain the same levels of success as other individuals. And right now with all of the economic and job related issues in the USA, even more people are suffering financially. People have lost their income sources, their jobs, their businesses, and their homes. People are experiencing toxic work environments, as well as emotional and financial blackmail from parents and other family members. Many people are now deeply in debt and not sure where to turn for help.
With all of this in mind, we are stepping up our giving routine. And one of the things we are really excited about is our new AOC Rainbow Scholarship, specifically designed to support women, people of color, and members of the LGBT+ community.
Since we have reached financial independence and retired early, we can use our family motto of All Options Considered to support other people. Earlier this year we reached out to a few people that we respect and admire in the financial independence community to look for ideas and inspiration for our new scholarship idea. It was immediately clear that there are lots of ways we can use the AOC Rainbow Scholarship to help others right now and in the future.
Among our ideas, big and small, was finding a more formal program that focuses on personal finance and debt relief to include in our plan. And we wanted to find something we could work on right now! There was one program in particular that really stood out to us that we wanted to support.
So we are excited to announce that we have partnered with the Debt Free GuysTM to provide LGBT+ community members with access to more financial education tools. We are offering our scholarship right now to cover the cost of enrollment in their Credit Card Pay Off Plan.
Once you are deep into credit card debt, the idea of paying for a course in debt reduction can be intimidating or just too costly. We want to make sure the AOC Rainbow Scholarship can help people remove some of the financial obstacles they face. So that’s the plan in a nutshell!
If you are interested in participating in the Credit Card Pay Off Plan created by the Debt Free GuysTM, and you think the AOC Rainbow Scholarship can help you, there’s more information about the course and scholarship HERE.
The scholarship program for this course is designed to coincide with National Coming Out Day (October 11) and LGBTQ History Month (October), because we want to encourage people to Come Out About Your Money!
We look forward to awarding scholarships for this program this year, and for many years to come.
And if you have more ideas for how we can use our AOC Rainbow Scholarship please feel free to send us an email at alix2aoc@gmail.com and share your ideas!

What a great idea! 🙂
